If you watch VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” then you’ve probably heard of the Fat Smash Diet. In case you haven’t, I’m going to give you the run down and why this ”celebrity” diet actually works.
First, what is it the Fat Smash Diet? It was created by Dr. Ian K. Smith, and is part of a so called “new wave” approach to diets that are based on sound nutrition instead of hype. It’s interesting to note that these new wave diets have actually been around for years, but suddenly, when celebrities start using them they become new wave.
How’s this for new wave–this diet lets you eat as many fruits, vegetables, greens and legumes as you want. That’s actually the single most important aspect of the diet. This is supposedly the big breakaway from traditional diets that have you restrict your calories.
Yes, it’s true that this type of diest isn’t new. Heck, even old time fitness enthusiasts like Jack LaLanne (who is in his 90’s) have been advocating this type of diet for decades. So, even though it claims to be revolutionary, I’m not going to bad mouth the Fat Smash Diet.
After all, if it actually gets people to start eating healthy, instead of going on those low calorie fad diets that perpetrate the internet, then I’m all for it.
You can go on the formal version of the diet which is a 90 day program broken up into 4 phases. They are Detox, Foundation, Construction, and the Temple. Yes, the names are pretty hokey, but they actually serve a specific purpose which I will cover in a future post.
The diet is supposed to get rid of food addiction, which is allegedly the body’s response to toxins released by certain foods. Whether or not it does this is beside the point. Any diet that has you eat ample amounts of fruits and vegetables, and has you cut down on dairy and red meats is bound to work for fat loss and healthy weight maintenance.
All in all, the Fat Smash Diet seems to be one of those celebrity diets that actually seem sound, and that can work for the average person.
I will be going more in detail as to why the Smash Diet works in Part II, and I will cover the 4 phases in Part III of this series.
