The Great Conundrum–Lifting Weights or Cardio for Fat Loss
October 5th, 2008 by Egan C. | Filed under Fat Loss, Fat Loss Exercises, Weight Lifting, Weight Loss Exercises.I’ve been asked before if I had to recommend strictly weight training, or only steady state cardio for fat loss, which would it be. Read on for my answer…
Before I get to the answer, there’s something you must come to terms with. The truth is that in order to achieve maximum fat loss you have to eat right. There’s no way around it. You want to drink 5 sodas a day, a double quarter pounder with cheese and fries for lunch, and a starch heavy dinner, does it really doesn’t matter whether you lift weights, or sit your butt down on the exercise bike and pedal away for an hour? How much weight do you think you’ll lose then? Probably not very much.
You have to learn to control both what you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat. That’s how you’re going to lose fat. Exercising, either weight lifting, cardio, or both is only the icing on the fat loss cake. This is a great lead in for my answer…
So my answer for which is a better form of exercise for fat loss is, neither. I know that’s a cop out answer, but it’s honest. The truth is that diet is best for fat loss. It trumps any form of exercise.
Besides, you don’t really have to choose one. I have my own personal favorite exercises for fat loss and maybe you have yours. But, none will work if you’re eating garbage. As the old saying goes, garbage in, garbage out.
